Chapati with Lentils (served 3x a week, the children’s favorite)
Ugali with Chicken, cabbage and broth.
Most eat it thiswith their fingers, no utensil. (this is another child’s favorite meal served twice a week)
We think its very bland and looks like mashed potatoes but does not taste like mashed potatoes.
Swahilli Muffins
(enjoyed for breakfast or snack, similar to english muffin)
Chai is not necessary different than what we get in the US, but what is different is,they stop everyday to have it. Each morning it is served with a piece of Kenyan cake or a pancake for a snack. Some of us like it, some of us do NOT! As you can see I’m NOT a Fan!!!
Rolls w/ peanut sauce was served to us for a lunch.
Juice
Cereal in Kenya. Milk comes in a carton like this.
Potato Chips are called Crisps.
Yogurt comes in LARGE jug.
Each day, sometimes twice, we refill this brita pitcher. We have to use filtered water to brush teeth with. This stays in our bathroom to remind us. In the kitchen there is a filter system to get our drinkinng water.
If you look closely the water is not clear, like what comes out of our tap at home, its tinted brown, but is supposeably clean to drink.
Pizza is served here to us Americans only.
(no pepperoni). Veggie style or sausage.
We are enjoying getting to try NEW things!!!!
We do miss some foods from home, canned peaches, carrot sticks, icecream, bread for sandwiches, Mom’s applesauce.
No desserts are served here, so that is different too.
We have some of the best carrots on the planet here in Kenya too ... But Kenyans don't really eat raw veggies. So that's likely why you aren't having carrot sticks.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, no peaches or applesauce (or blueberries)!
